I'm Robert A. Scheffler, the maker of scrimshawed powder
horns, re-enactor and flintlock shooter.
I've been shooting muzzleloaders while hunting and at black powder shoots for about 23 years now. I've been making scrimshawed powder horns for about 17 years. Back then I had seen the store bought products and decided I wanted something more authentic. When I saw a nice horn in an old book on the Rev. War with scrimshawing on it I said to myself: "I can do that." So I did. A friend liked what I crafted so much that he bought it from me and so I continued making them. Now I've made over a hundred powder horns, most of which I have sold to private collections and some I've kept for personal use. Every artist has their own style. As reflected in my work, I strive to achieve a level of professional authenticity worthy of museum quality collections. Whether you're a re-enactor, a flintlock shooter, or just a collector of historic memorabilia, you'll find no other horns like these.
